"Are women human yet? If women were regarded as human, would they be sold into sexual slavery worldwide; veiled, silenced, and imprisoned in homes; bred, and worked as menials for little or no pay; stoned for sex outside marriage or burned within it; mutilated genitally, impoverished economically, and mired in illiteracy--all as a matter of course and without effective recourse?"

OneWorld welcomes Teresa Younger as the new Executive Director of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women.  www.cga.ct.gov/pcsw

We look forward to formally welcoming Ms. Younger to our discussion table on "21st Century Conversations."

We welcome the fact that America now has its first female Speaker of the House- Nancy Pelosi.  The "leader of the free world" has moved a little closer to some 3rd world countries in treating women as political equals.  However, take keen note of how Ms. Pelosi's actions are evaluated in the press and by the White House.

Britain, Israel, India & Ireland are among those which have had female heads of state for decades.
